MOSCOW, July 18 (RAPSI) – Google's Russian subsidiary on Monday was fined 21.8 billion rubles (about $390 million at the time of writing) by Moscow’s Tagansky District Court for repeated refusal to remove content prohibited by Russian law.
The fine is based on a percentage of Google LLC turnover in Russia.
Last December, a 7.2-billion-ruble turnover fine was imposed on the branch by Russian authorities. Google LLC was also found guilty of non-compliance with the order of the restriction of access to some content.
Last month, the subsidiary filed for bankruptcy petition. Its insolvency petition was registered by the Moscow Commercial Court. Google LLC stated it can no longer pay staff, suppliers, vendors and meet other financial obligations.
