MOSCOW, August 23 (RAPSI) — An act of terror, which was being prepared for the day of the referendum on the region's entry into the Russian Federation, was prevented in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Mikhail Popov, press officer of the DPR Ministry of State Security (MGB), told reporters on Tuesday.

Citizen of Ukraine Evgeny Karpenko turned to the DPR MGB informing that while working in the Czech Republic he was recruited by Ukrainian special services, Popov said.

After being recruited, Karpenko was trained in the Czech Republic under the guidance of Czech and Ukrainian instructors in firearms and mine explosives. Upon completion of his training, he was sent to the DPR with the aim of committing a terrorist act at the time of the referendum on joining the Russian Federation, the MGB press officer of the MGB added.

Karpenko admitted that he was set the mission of planting an explosive device in the building of the Volodarsky District administration near Mariupol.
