ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 24 (RAPSI) — The sentence of a Russian citizen who participated in an illegal armed unit on the territory of Ukraine was upheld and entered into force, as reported by the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea.

As it was established, in November 2015, a resident of the Republic of Crimea, while on the territory of Ukraine, voluntarily joined an illegal armed unit stationed in close proximity to the state border of the Russian Federation. The unit members planned a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional order, as well as a violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation and a blockade of the peninsula. According to investigators, since 2015, the convict has been actively involved in the activities of this unit, sharing and supporting its goals.

The consideration of the criminal case in the court of first instance, on the basis of the petition of the prosecution, was held in absentia, while the convict was on the international wanted list.

By the ruling of the Kievsky District Court of the city of Simferopol, the man was found guilty of criminally punishable participation in an armed formation established outside federal law. The court of first instance sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
