KIEV, March 19 - RAPSI. The Communist Party has proposed to introduce the death penalty for high crimes in Ukraine, the party's leader Petro Symonenko said.
The corresponding draft law has been prepared, he added. It only needs to be included on the parliament's agenda.
Recently, three young men aged 22-24 raped an 18-year-old girl in the city of Nikolaev. They then they attempted to burn her to death. The event incited a public uproar and resulted in proposals to introduce the death penalty in Ukraine.
The victim is in bad condition.
Parliamentary Speaker Vladimir Litvin said the draft law was submitted for consideration to a parliamentary committee. He added that the draft law on introducing life imprisonment for premeditated murder has also been registered in parliament.
At the same time, Mikhail Teplyuk, the head of the parliament's Legal Department, said the adoption of the law would be recognized in court as a violation of the Constitution.
