ST.-PETERSBURG, May 17 - RAPSI. Supreme Commercial Court Chairman Anton Ivanov has stated that Russia must protect its citizens and companies from unfair competition of foreign judicial systems.
“By adopting the relevant law, Russia should guarantee its citizens and entities protection from the unfair competition of foreign jurisdictions,” Ivanov said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF).
Ivanov added that the guarantee should apply to actions by foreign countries, their authorities and officials and foreign legal entities and individuals taking advantage of competing judicial systems.
Specifically, if claims are made against a Russian individual in a foreign court, he proposed launching a parallel process in Russia to determine if the dispute meets jurisdiction rules.
If the court concludes that the issue should be considered in Russia, a Russian court would hear the case on its merits, Ivanov said.
