MOSCOW, August 27 - RAPSI. The Federation Council does not support lawmakers' proposal to equate hacking websites with taking over the authorities. Such hacking envisages imprisonment for up to five years.
"You definitely cannot equate hacking websites with taking over the authorities, as these are absolutely different crimes," Member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Law, Legal and Judicial Affairs and the Promotion of Civil Society Yevgeniy Tarlo said.
The senator added that hacking should be prosecuted and the punishment for hacking government websites should be higher than for the other websites.
"However, I am not prepared to assess how adequate the punishments must be, although I think that five years is a very serious sentence," he said.
Member of the Federation Council Constitutional Committee Mikhail Kapura voiced a similar opinion in a conversation with RIA Novosti. "Such a proposal cannot but make experienced lawyers smile," he said.
