GORKI, December 4 - RAPSI. The introduction of a Criminal Code article on six types of fraud will help increase transparency and prevent criminal cases from being manipulated during preliminary investigations, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.

President Vladimir Putin has signed the corresponding law.

The law will introduce six types of fraud pertaining to loan transactions, payment receipts, credit and debit card use, insurance and computer technology, and business activities.

The maximum punishment has not changed and will remain 10 years in prison.

"I will tell you that I don't know how the new system will work. But as all practitioners say, the system will present fewer opportunities for manipulation by entities involved in preliminary investigations," Medvedev said at a meeting with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

He added that the new system must be analyzed in practice.

"I hope that it will have an effect," the prime minister said.
