KIEV, April 15 (RAPSI) – The Ukrainian government plans to amend the constitution in order to the decentralize governmental authority, according to a statement issued by the Ukrainian Regional Development Ministry Tuesday.
During a governmental session on Tuesday, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman presented a municipal government reform plan and several amendments to the constitution, which he says will provide for a more balanced governance within the country.
“If there are problems arising on a city level, they must be resolved on that same level. It doesn’t have to be the way when municipal problems are micromanaged by the ministers in Kiev,” Groisman added.
On February 22, Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada (parliament) impeached Viktor Yanukovich and amended the constitution. Presidential authority was assigned to parliament speaker Alexander Turchinov and a presidential election was scheduled for May 25.
