KIEV, August 27 (RAPSI) – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed an executive order on Wednesday dissolving the parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, and setting early elections for October 26, the statement on the president’s website reads.
The order became effective as of its publication on August 27.
Under Ukrainian law, the election campaign begins the next day after publication.
The government is ordered to ensure proper financing of the early elections.
Poroshenko claimed earlier this week that Ukraine hold “democratic and transparent parliament elections”. He has repeatedly said that the current composition of parliament failed to meet the interests of the Ukrainian society.
