MOSCOW, September 24 (RAPSI) - The Japanese government announced additional sanctions against Russia related to the situation in Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports Wednesday, citing Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
The new sanctions list includes Sberbank, VTB, Vnesheconombank, Gazprombank and Rosselkhozbank.
As a result, the export of weapons and goods associated with the banks will be subject to stricter regulations. Also, transactions in securities of “certain banks” and their emission were banned.
This is the fourth set of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Japan since spring. However, Japan’s sanctions did not affect Russian financial institutions and major companies until now.
Last March, Japan suspended talks with Russia on relaxing the visa regime between the countries and talks on two other agreements, on prevention of dangerous military activity in space and on investment collaboration. In late April, the Japanese government announced a ban on entry for 23 Russian officials in the wake of the situation in Ukraine. Still, their names have not been disclosed.
