MOSCOW, March 6 (RAPSI) – The Russian Association of Air Transport Operators (RAEVT) warned that the service of flight reservations online will collapse unless the personal data storage law which will become effective in September is amended, Vedomosti newspaper reported on Friday.
RAEVT reportedly requested presidential commissioner for entrepreneurs' rights Boris Titov to look into the case.
The law which will take effect on September 1 requires internet companies to store personal data of Russian nationals within the country's borders.
RAEVT claims that it would be impossible to meet the requirements of the law by that date and make the arrangements with the world’s global operators (Amadeus, Gabriel, Sabre, Galileo) through which flight tickets are currently booked.
Certain provisions of the law should be specified, or the date when the law becomes effective should be shifted, according to RAEV
Vladimir Putin signed the law last July after it had been passed by both houses of parliament. Initially, it was to take effect on September 1, 2016. However, a group of lawmakers of the lower house of parliament, the State Duma, suggested to speed up the enactment of the law.
