MOSCOW, January 27 (RAPSI) – Lawmakers from the Communist party have submitted a bill to the State Duma that reintroduces the confiscation of property as a secondary punishment for grave crimes, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.
Practice of property forfeiture has been active in Russia until 2003. Later it was replaced by a system of fines.
Authors of the bill believe that ban on property confiscation was a mistake because it’s not an effective measure against criminal activity while absence of this practice causes devaluation of justice in society.
MPs propose to define what property may be subjected for confiscation and what property may not be forfeited from criminal under any circumstances.
