MOSCOW, February 22 (RAPSI) – The Federal Chamber of Lawyers of Russia supports a bill aimed to amend the law on legal practice and advocacy in Russia according to Gennady Sharov, the acting President of the association.
The Chamber has a strong stand with regard to the bill, in particular concerning the proposal to introduce success fees, on the condition the recommendations the Chamber’s Council made last September are taken into account, Sharov said.
As the acting President pointed out, the Chamber seeks its Commission on Ethics to be authorized to review disciplinary cases initiated by the Chamber’s head instead of the suggested provision to transfer such disciplinary cases against lawyers to a regional chamber, of which such a lawyer is not a member.
The Committee on State Building and Legislation of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, is to discuss the issues related to the development of the law on legal practice and advocacy next Monday.
