MOSCOW, July 3 (RAPSI) – Highly qualified foreign specialists will be able to obtain Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure, according to the law signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The proposed changes apply to foreign citizens and persons without citizenship, who are qualified and sought after in segments of Russian economy, authors of the initiative noted earlier. The law reduces the term a foreign specialist must work in Russia to receive citizenship from previous 3 to 1 year and increases frequency of the registry’s updates, in order to have a more adaptive system.

The draft law was prepared as part of the instructions issued by Russian President in June 2018.

The document comes into force after the expiry of 90 days from the date of its official publication.
