MOSCOW, July 12 (RAPSI) – A group of Russian lawmakers introduced a bill on protection of valuable books to the State Duma, a statement published on the website of the parliament’s lower house Friday reads.
The concept of “book memorials” was fixed in Russian legislation 10 years ago with introducing of amendments into the law on library services. By the book memorial is meant a manuscript or print publication containing outstanding material and spiritual values and having a unique historical, scientific and artistic credentials.
According to the bill, book values will be protected in a similar way to museum valuables. The bookish examination of memorials will be conducted by libraries. All rare manuscripts and books will be recorded in a publicly available electronic registry on the official website of the Russian State Library, an explanatory note to the draft law reads.
