MOSCOW, May 18 (RAPSI) - The Government Law-Making Commission has backed a bill simplifying stay and living of foreign students in Russia, according to the press service of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.

Such foreigners will be able to fill out temporary resident permit for educational purposes, the press service quotes the Association’s head Vladimir Gruzdev as having said. This permit will be active during the entire period of study plus 180 days after graduation.

Applicants will not be obliged to confirm their knowledge of Russian language and pass Russian history exams. However, they will be ordered to undergo dactyloscopy registration, according to Gruzdev.

Foreign students will have a right to receive permanent residency in Russia within 3 years after their graduation.

Last year, over 265,000 foreign citizens aiming to receive education in Russia were registered in migration services. Their number decreased because of the pandemic by nearly 60%. In 2019, there were over 680,000 potential students, Gruzdev noted.
