MOSCOW, June 23 (RAPSI) – Russia's government has submitted a bill requiring the development of a Russian mobile app store and its pre-installation on electronic devices and smartphones to the State Duma, the lower house of parliament.
The draft law is proclaimed as a measure in the context of the sanctions policy applied against Russia.
The State Duma recalled the recent restrictions on the functioning of foreign app stores, including Google Play and App Store, and stated that there was a risk that those platforms would stop working in Russia.
If enacted into law, the bill will come into force right after publishing. This approach is dictated by the need for prompt actions in the light of sanctions and hostile actions taken by some foreign states and organizations, according to the initiative’s authors.
