MOSCOW, November 26 - RAPSI, Maria Petrova. Viktor Ivanov, head of the Federal Drug Control Service, said at a conference at the Moscow Region Court that it is imperative to confiscate all assets which belong to organizers of drug businesses if they cannot prove they acquired them legally.

"The New Legislation and Issues of Law Enforcement Practice in Combating Drug Crimes" nationwide research and practice conference has just begun at the Moscow Region Court. It was organized by the Supreme Court, Federal Drug Control Service and the Moscow Region government.

"The only efficient way to combat drug crimes is to confiscate the assets of those who organize the sale of drugs," Ivanov said.

He also proposed holding drug users administratively liable and sending them for treatment and rehabilitation.

He said that life imprisonment for drug dealing will be imposed from January 1, 2013.

Police methods alone will not save people from drug addiction.

Ivanov believes that the growth in drug crime can be contained only via united efforts.
