ATHENS, January 28 - RAPSI, Alexei Bogdanovsky. Buses and trollies remain idle for a third day straight in Athens, according to local trade unions.
Public transport has been on strike for over 10 days. Drivers have ignored a court ruling against the strikes, following the lead of other unions. Earlier, the court ruled that the strike halting buses and trolleybuses in Athens was illegal.
Transport workers are protesting a cut in their salaries and showing solidarity with the metro workers who terminated their nine-day protest last week after the government announced civil mobilization. All of the metro workers received an official summons, requiring that they should go to work or face sanctions. The railways and commuter rail service are continuing their strike, although the railway company management also seeks to recognize their actions as illegal.
The metro and trams remain the only types of transport operating on schedule in Athens because the government has forced them to resume their work.
