MOSCOW, March 26 - RAPSI. A Russian teenager who was adopted at the age of 12 by a US couple chose to run away from home, living on the streets for months before finally making it back to his grandmother in Russia, Vesti television channel reported.
When Alexander Abnosov was 10, his mother died. Afterward, his father lost custody of the boy due to alcoholism. The boy's elderly grandmother was not able to process the documents required to gain custody.
After living in an orphanage for two years, Alexander and several other children were taken to the US for a tour, when he met his future adoptive parents.
Within a year, Alexander was adopted and moved to Philadelphia.
Alexander's adoptive mother, who visited a family therapist, was reportedly physically and verbally abusive. However, the boy's relations with his adoptive father were stable. At the age of 15, the couple reportedly required Alexander to begin working at a local restaurant, and allegedly held on to all of his earnings.
After a fight with his adoptive parents, he ran away from home. He only had his Russian passport with him. For nearly three months, Alexander lived on the streets of Pennsylvania where he earned enough money to buy a ticket back to Russia. Upon arriving in Russia, the 18-year-old moved to Cheboksary with his grandmother.
