CAIRO, April 18 (RAPSI) - Egypt's Prosecutor General Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah has decided to move Hosni Mubarak from the Maadi Military Hospital back to the Tora prison hospital near Cairo, supervisory authority officials told journalists on Wednesday.
Mubarak, 84, was transferred to the military hospital late last year with a head injury, two cracked ribs and one fractured rib after he slipped in a prison hospital shower. The Maadi doctors also said that the rib fracture could damage his lungs.
The decision to send Mubarak back to the prison hospital was taken based on a medical report, which said that he was in sufficiently good health and therefore did not need to remain in the military hospital, and that the prison hospital was ready to provide him the necessary medical treatment.
In June 2012, Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly were sentenced to life for complicity in the murder and attempted murder of hundreds of protesters during the January 2011 uprising. About 850 people were killed in the crackdown during the uprising that ended Mubarak's rule.
In mid January 2013, the Court of Cassation accepted an appeal filed by Mubarak's lawyers against the June 2012 ruling. A retrial of the case is scheduled to begin on May 11, 2013.
