MOSCOW, April 18 (RAPSI) - Russia is not going to implement any extra security measures at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the government's Olympic supervisor Dmitry Kozak said Thursday, R-Sport agency reports.
Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said a day after Monday's terrorist attack, which killed three people and injured nearly 200, that Russia would beef up safety measures but the broader security concept would not change.
"All necessary security measures that will protect people and protect all the (Olympic) events ... are being implemented right now at the test events in their entirety, as they will be at the Olympic Games, just scaled down a little," Kozak said.
The Black Sea resort is currently playing host to the under-18 world hockey championships, a test event for the Olympic hockey tournaments at the Shayba and Bolshoi arenas in the coastal Olympic Park.
Kozak stressed that while the tragedy in Boston required authorities to be more alert, "no extra (security) measures are under consideration at this moment in time."
It is unclear how Kozak's remarks fit with an Interior Ministry statement issued Tuesday that announced Sochi would have "enhanced security measures" as of June 1.
The opening ceremony is February 7.
