MOSCOW, April 23 (RAPSI) - The widow of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Katherine Russell, claims she did not know anything about the plot, the New York Daily News wrote on Monday.
Attorney Amato DeLuca said Katherine found out that her husband and brother-in-law were suspected of being the Boston Marathon bombers from TV, just as many Americans did.
It was reported on Monday that US special services planned to question Russell. The investigators attempted to approach her at her parents home where she is currently staying, but she refused to talk. Her attorney said she had not noticed anything that could arouse her suspicions after the bombing.
DeLuca said that Russell met Tsarnaev, an ex-Golden Gloves boxer, through friends when she was studying at Suffolk University in Boston. They married in 2009 or 2010, and she never graduated. Russell was working 70 to 80 hours a week as a home health care aide while Tsarnaev cared for their 3-year-old daughter, Zahara.
According to the Daily Mail, Katherine Russell, 24, converted to Islam to marry Tamerlan. However, an official at the Rhode Island Department of Health, where vital statistics are kept, said they have no records of the marriage.
Brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, are suspected of detonating two bombs made from pressure cookers at the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three people and injured over 180. Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with police early on Friday. Dzhokhar was arrested later that day.
