MAKHACHKALA, April 24 (RAPSI) - US diplomats arrived to Dagestan to discuss the trip that the parents of the Tsarnaev brothers plan to make to the United States, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
The delegation further discussed details of the parents’ anticipated participation in the continuing investigation into the attacks.
A spokesperson from the US Embassy in Moscow stated previously that a group of diplomats would travel to visit the parents of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev on Tuesday. The brothers are suspected of having organized the deadly bombing in Boston. On April 15, two bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, America's most prestigious 26.2-mile race, which boasts such stringent entry requirements that only the world's top runners are entitled to compete.
Three people have been confirmed dead, including an eight-year-old boy who was there to cheer on his father. US authorities announced Monday that upwards of 200 were injured as a result of the attacks.
The Tsarnaevs’ father told RIA Novosti that US representatives have contacted him and that he has agreed to meet with them. He added that he is determined to go to the United States to be with his son Dzhokhar, who remains in custody in the aftermath of a manhunt and shootout which cost the life of his brother Tamerlan last Friday.
Dzhokhar was charged on Monday from his hospital bed with one count of using a weapon of mass destruction against persons or property, resulting in death, and one count of malicious destruction of property by use of an explosive device resulting in death. According to the US Department of Justice’s press release on the charges, “The statutory charges authorize a penalty, upon conviction, of death or imprisonment for life or any term of years.”
"The talks have resulted in an agreement to move the Tsarnaev parents to the United States to participate in the investigation," the source said.
He said Tsarnaev's mother arrived in Dagestan early in the morning to attend the meeting.
