TBILISI, June 17 (RAPSI) - The state security service of the Georgian Interior Ministry has found secret caches of weapons, drugs and videotaped tortures hidden in Samegrelo, western Georgia, by high-ranking ministry officials under the previous government, the Novosti Gruziya news agency reported on Monday, citing the ministry.
The find includes an archive of photographs and personal files of opposition members "who were to be framed and arrested if the pro-presidential United National Movement won the October 1, 2012 parliamentary elections."
Some of the documents are in writing and can be used as material evidence for purposes of "rapid identification and arrest."
The caches also contained "large amounts of explosives, bombs, grenades, automatic and other weapons, communication systems, uniforms, as well as drugs and mood-changing substances. There are also videotapes of torture, sexual abuse, beatings and humiliating treatment of people by law enforcement officials, which are being scrutinized by the investigative officers."
The Georgian Dream coalition led by the current Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili won the October 1, 2012 parliamentary election, forcing into the opposition the United National Movement, which ruled Georgia since the Rose Revolution in 2003 and has been led by President Mikheil Saakashvili.
