MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - Over 200 immigrants from Central Asia have been detained during a check at a market in the west of the Russian capital, the Interior Ministry’s Moscow department has reported.
The check, carried out on Wednesday, revealed facts of illegal trade and violations of migration laws, the department said.
Last week, Russian police arrested 229 suspected illegal immigrants during a raid on a market in southwest Moscow, according to an earlier Interior Ministry report.
Police have conducted a series of sweeps and mass checks of markets and other locations with large concentrations of immigrant workers over the past month, after a policeman was injured by a mob while trying to detain a man suspected of rape at a Moscow market at the end of July.
