MOSCOW, April 2 (RAPSI) - Popular mixed martial arts fighter Alexander Emelianenko is wanted on suspicion of sexual assault, according to the official Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin.
“Since he disappeared and didn’t show up for questioning, Emelianenko has been put on the national wanted list,” Markin said. Investigators are ready to prosecute the athlete who could face prison time.
Alexander Emelianenko is a well known Russian mixed martial arts fighter who has represented the country at many international championships. He is the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko who is believed to be the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in history by many of the media, including in the US.
Unlike his brother, Alexander is often implicated in scandals, usually as a result of alleged heavy drinking. Last year, he assaulted a retired person at a Moscow café but was not convicted.
Also, his match against Eric Prindle in Tyumen was canceled during a tournament. According to organizers, Yemelyanenko had neglected his training schedule and had refused to take blood tests.
