KIEV, July 31 (RAPSI) – Ukraine’s parliament has rejected the resignation of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, RIA Novosti announced.

Under Ukrainian law, the resignation of the prime minister, which results in the resignation of the government, must be approved or rejected by parliament. The old government continues to work until a new cabinet is formed.

Yatsenyuk tendered his resignation in parliament on July 24, citing the dissolution of the parliamentary coalition and the blocking of government initiatives in the Verkhovna Rada. President Petro Poroshenko said the government and Yatsenyuk must continue working.

Parliament speaker Oleksandr Turchynov announced the dissolution of the European Choice coalition, which was created after the change of government in February, on July 24. The coalition’s dissolution was initiated by the UDAR and Svoboda parties in parliament for political reasons. They believe the current parliament is not meeting the public’s needs and is incompetent.

The Ukrainian president will be able to announce the dissolution of the parliament unless a new coalition is created within 30 days.
