ST. PETERSBURG, August 25 (RAPSI) – A Russian tourist has been detained after trying to bring in 275 kilograms (over 600 pounds) of meat and fish in a van from Estonia, Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Monday.
The man, whose name has not been released, was detained at the checkpoint in Ivangorod on the Estonian-Russian border.
Individuals are allowed to bring in Russia no more than five kilograms of animal products per person in their luggage from the EU, the United States, Australia or Norway.
As the Russian tourist had no required permission for bringing the products over these limits, they were sent back to Estonia, the statement of the agency reads.
Moreover, earlier in August Russia imposed an embargo on food imports from the EU, the United States and other Western countries for one year in response to the sanctions introduced against Russia. The ban includes beef, pork, poultry, fruit, vegetables, cheese, dairy, nuts and other products. Later some food products, including lactose-free milk and dairy products, young salmon and trout, some vegetables and nutritional supplements, were removed out of blacklist.
