MOSCOW, February 24 (RAPSI) - The management of the Twitter microblog service sent a letter to the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) confirming their willingness to negotiate with the agency, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.
Roskomnadzor press secretary Vadim Ampelonsky announced that Twitter confirmed its willingness to discuss the monitoring of daily visits to popular Russian accounts. The issue was discussed at a meeting with Twitter representatives last December, the spokesman said.
Ampelonsky added that the company representatives promised to give a more detailed response to Roskomnadzor’s mid-February request.
In February, Roskomnadzor sent an official inquiry to the management of Twitter, in which the agency requested that the company explain its repeated non-compliance with regulations of Russian law, including laws on the prevention of extremism.
The inquiry was sent following a publication of a report by Twitter concerning requests to delete data or provide information about account users back in 2014.
The top three countries that requested specific content to be deleted from Twitter in late 2014 were Turkey (477 requests), Russia (91 requests, of which 13% were fulfilled) and Germany (43 requests).
In the second half of 2014, Twitter received 108 requests from Russia to provide information about accounts, none of which were fulfilled.
