MOSCOW, March 27 (RAPSI) – A new witness named Evgeny appeared in a murder case of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov. He claims to have seen an alleged killer, Kommersant newspaper reported on Friday.
A 27-year-old man, whose last name has not been disclosed, says that he was walking behind Nemtsov and his girlfriend Anna Durytska when the politician was attacked.
Evgeny claims that he saw a man running from the murder scene, whom he described as lean, of medium height with medium-length, dark and possibly wavy hear.
The description does not fit the man who was charged with the murder. Zaur Dadayev is large and athletically built, according to Kommersant.
Dadayev’s lawyers vow to use this information to prove that he did not kill Nemtsov.
Moreover, investigators said that the killer escaped in a car made by Ukrainian company ZAZ. The witness claims that the man he saw jumped into a Russian car that looked like a white Lada Priora.
Nemtsov, co-chair of the Republican Party of Russia – People’s Freedom Party (RPR-PARNAS) and former first deputy prime minister in the Yeltsin government, was fatally shot as he walked home with a girlfriend in central Moscow late on the night of February 27.
He joined the opposition in the 2000s.
Investigators are considering several motives for Nemtsov’s murder, including murder by contract. Another version includes an extremist Islamic connection, because Nemtsov reportedly received threats in connection with his stance on the shooting of journalists at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
Five men were detained on suspicion of killing Nemtsov: Zaur Dadayev, Anzor Gubashev, Shadid Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhayev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov.
Durytska was believed to be the only witness in Nemtsov’s murder.
