MOSCOW, July 6 (RAPSI) – The FBI has updated its list for world's most notorious cyber criminals identifying Russian national Evgeny Bogachev as primary target for the agency, Digital Trends has reported.
According to Digital trends, Bogachev faces ten charges including conspiracy, money laundering, and aggravated identity theft. The FBI offers $3 mln as a reward for his capture.
The Russian national is suspected of developing Zbot (Gameover Zeus), a Trojan program designed to steal financial information, and a network of infected computers, Cryptolocker, that encrypts data on a hard drive and demands a ransom to decode it. The US officials announced that they managed to shut down Cryptlocker in May, 2014 thanks to cooperation with 10 countries.
Zbot virus activity has been cut by 85% in the US and by 81% in the rest of the world, according to the FBI. However, the alleged damage from Bogachev’s activity is estimated at $100 million in the US alone.
Bogachev was first charged in 2012 and the US authorities believe that Bogachev is still in Russia. Authorities claim that they have been investigating him since 2009, Digital Trends has reported.
The FBI list also includes $100,000 reward for Russian citizen Alexsey Belan, who is accused of hacking into three US major online commerce companies in Nevada and California, Digital Trends has reported.
