MOSCOW, April 18 (RAPSI) – It is necessary to improve legal mechanics of international cooperation of law enforcers, Alexander Bastrykin, the Head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, told Kommersant-Vlast magazine on Monday.
“It is necessary to improve legal mechanics of international cooperation between law enforcement agencies and other authorities empowered to counter terrorism and extremism,” – Bastrykin said.
According to the Investigative Committee Head, as yet the Russian legislation has regulated only the procedures, which govern the forwarding of international letters of request for legal assistance, whereas international acts in this area envisage opportunities of a closer integration up to establishment of international investigative teams.
This cooperation would help in situations, where Russian investigative agencies need to carry out investigative activities or even preliminary investigations in the territories of foreign countries on condition these countries grant such an opportunity. This legal gap has become apparent in the course of probes into 2008 Georgia – South Ossetia armed conflict and the act of terrorism on the board of Russian Airbus A321 over Sinai, Bastrykin stated.
