MOSCOW, November 25 (RAPSI) - Russian Federal Guard Service (FSO) General Gennady Lopyrev has been arrested on suspicion of serious law violations, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

Lopyrev was arrested following an internal check conducted in the FSO units in the Caucasus.

The inspection’s materials have been submitted to investigative bodies; investigation is underway. The General has been already transferred to the Moscow office of the Russian Investigative Committee.

As various media outlets reported earlier, the inquiry may be related to the construction of the Olympic venues in Sochi.

The Federal Guard Service is a government agency created for the protection of high-ranking state officials, including the President of Russia, as well as certain federal properties. It is headed by Major General Dmitry Kochnev.
