MOSCOW, October 20 (RAPSI) – Russia’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Tatiana Moskalkova on Friday held a meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Thorbjørn Jagland, the Ombudsman wrote on her Instagram page.
Moskalkova and Jagland discussed a wide range of human rights issues, the statement reads.
Earlier, Russia’s High Commissioner for Human Rights sent a request to the United Nations (UN) for assistance in the organization of humanitarian corridor from Iraq’s Mosul for Russian women and children. Currently, military operations against terrorists of the Islamic State organization banned in Russia are conducted there. The UN answer had not been received yet, and problems related to human rights protection in combat zones were expected to be discussed with Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Ombudsman said.
The institute of human rights ombudsman is a government body involved in protection and promotion of rights and freedoms, and competent legal assistance. Moskalkova was appointed as Russia’s human rights commissioner in April 2016.
