MOSCOW, November 30 (RAPSI) - Sergey Stepashin, Chairman of Russia’s Association of Lawyers, said on Thursday that the adoption of a universal concept of terrorism is a key condition for successful fight against this crime, RAPSI reported from the 4th BRICS Legal Forum.
According to Stepashin, the lack of a united approach to interpretation of terrorism may result in problems when searching and prosecuting dangerous persons hiding from justice in other countries.
The Association’s Chairman said that BRICS states are to facilitate the adoption of a single international convention on combating terrorism. Currently, India is ranked 4th in the global terrorist threats index, Russia is 9th, and China is 24th, he added.
Stepashin also suggested to intensify data exchange between BRICS countries with regard to furnishing information on terrorism suspects. Moreover, he offered to suppress financing of terrorism by adopting an interbank agreement aimed to stop a free flow of cash used to sponsor terrorists, and developing a common platform on money laundering control.
The 4th BRICS Legal Forum is hosted by the Association of Lawyers of Russia and takes place in Moscow from November 30 to December 1, 2017.
