MOSCOW, December 19 (RAPSI) - Chairman of Russia’s Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov has endorsed an idea to declare major amnesty in 2018.
“Surely, I welcome the proposal voiced by the Kaluga region human rights commissioner,” Fedotov told RAPSI on Tuesday. Back in May, the Human Rights Council prepared an initiative on amnesty and suggested to apply it not only to criminal offenses but to administrative ones, Fedotov added.
On Monday, the Kaluga region ombudsman Yury Zelnikov suggested to announce amnesty in Russia in 2018. President Vladimir Putin promised to think about the proposal.
