MOSCOW, September 11 (RAPSI) – The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia has agreed with the initiative of business ombudsman Boris Titov, who proposed to establish specialized cellblocks for people convicted of economic crimes, the press-service of the ombudsman has stated.

Earlier, Titov proposed to create a special penitentiary facility for convicted entrepreneurs, explaining that these people should not be held with those convicted of violent crimes. Back then FSIN rejected the idea because of the high costs required.

However, the Service agreed with the proposal of specialized cellblocks. Titov said that he is grateful, adding that this measure would ease things up for business. Currently, defendants in economic criminal cases are usually held in destitute conditions, alongside violent criminals, in smoking cells, all to beat the confessions out of them, the ombudsman noted.
