MOSCOW, August 1 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Civic Chamber has launched a hotline on problems encountered in the enforcement practices related to the antidrug provisions of the national Criminal Code, the body’s press service informs on Thursday.
The enforcement of the “notorious” Criminal Code article, which the expert community strongly believes to be tough but balanced, remains wanting, and it is necessary to considerably improve public oversight of the activities of the law enforcement system in this matter, according to Sultan Khamzayev, a Civic Chamber member.
Citizens will be able to call the hotline when in need of legal aid or advice in the situations where law enforcement officers unduly use the antidrug provision of the Criminal Code against them or their relatives, Khamzayev is quoted as saying in the statement. He also says the hotline is aimed to develop public control over the activities of the law enforcement system.
