MOSCOW, August 12 (RAPSI) – Russia’s communications agency has sent Google a request demanding to prevent advertising of unauthorized rallies on YouTube video hosting service belonging to the American corporation, a statement released by the watchdog reads.
According to Roskomnadzor, certain structures having YouTube channels purchase advertising tools such as push notifications from the video hosting to disseminate information on unauthorized public events including those aimed to abort federal and regional elections.
Moreover, people, who are not keeping an eye on these channels, also receive such notifications, the watchdog states.
The agency’s authorities noted in their letter that failure to take response measures would be recognized as interference in the sovereign internal affairs of the country, hostile actions and hindering a democratic choice in Russia. In such a case, Roskomnadzor reserves the right to an appropriate response, the document says.
