MOSCOW, February 18 (RAPSI) – The Chairman of Russia’s Presidential Human Rights Council Valery Fadeyev and the Chairman of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Vladimir Piligin have signed a cooperation agreement between two organizations.
According to Fadeyev, the Council and the Association have already been working together for some time, in particular, as concerns pro bono legal help across Russia’s regions. The Chair of the Council expressed hope that the agreement was to broaden cooperation and make it even more useful for citizens of Russia.
Among spheres of joint activities Fadeyev pointed out the problem of doping in sports.
The two bodies agreed to cooperate in settling problems related to civil rights and liberties, improvement of public oversight mechanisms in this sphere, development of civil society institutions, humanization of and modernization of Russia’s society.
The Council and Association are planning to carry out joint expert examinations of bills, organize conferences, seminars and round tables to study pressing problems of law enforcement, participate in the development of proposals on the improvement of legislation, run informational and awareness building campaigns aimed to boost legal knowledge.
