MOSCOW, August 24 (RAPSI) – The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has issued a warning to LinguaLeo, an online English language learning service, over violation of the law on advertising, according to the body’s statement.
Administrative punishment was mitigated since the service was on the unified list of small and medium-sized businesses; initially the watchdog contemplated to fine it, the statement reads.
Earlier, a FAS commission found that the service run an unethical advertising campaign sending potential customers letters with a slogan “change or drop dead”; the insulting nature of the slogan was confirmed by experts of self-regulatory organization Marketing Industry Association Advertising Council.
Human life is a supreme value, it’s the ethical fundament of the modern society and law; therefore, use of such slogans in unethical even as a joke, Deputy Head of the FAS Directorate for Oversight of Advertising and Unfair Competition Irina Vasilenkova notes.
