MOSCOW, October 21 (RAPSI) – The number of children died during unorganized rest and recreation this summer increased by 1.7 times as compared to the same period in 2019, Russia’s Minors Rights Commissioner Anna Kuznetsova said at the All-Russia telephone conference on the summer health promotion campaign results.

This summer, she stated, 885 minors died while holidaying in Russia. During three summer months of 2019, 529 minors lost life during the unorganized rest due to various crimes, fires, poisoning, road traffic accidents and other reasons.

According to the ombudsman, in 2020, the health promotion campaign was held only in 59 regions of the Russian Federation and included 9,000 organizations (over 44,000 organizations in 2019) where about 891,500 children had a rest that is 6 times less that in 2019.
