MOSCOW, June 20 (RAPSI) — Russia has strongly protested against Lithuania's decision to impose a ban on rail transit through its territory of a large range of goods to the Kaliningrad region, and demands an intimidate lifting of these restrictions, according to a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The relevant information was brought to the attention of the Chargé d'Affaires of Lithuania Virginia Umbrasene, who was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday, June 20.
It was indicated that Russia regards the provocative measures of Lithuania, which had violated its international legal obligations, primarily the Joint Statement of the Russian Federation and the European Union on transit between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of the territory of the Russian Federation of 2002, as openly hostile, the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out.
The Ministry also said that in case the cargo transit between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of the territory of the Russian Federation through Lithuania would not be restored in full, Russia reserves the right to take actions to protect its national interests.
