MOSCOW, July 8 (RAPSI) – The People’s Council of the Donetsk People’s Republic has lifted a moratorium on the execution of death sentences, according to the body’s press service.

This legal provision will come into force after the publication of the DPR law amending the Penal Code of the self-proclaimed republic adopted on July 8, the statement reads.

Earlier, three foreign citizens, two Britons, Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, and Moroccan Brahim Saadun were sentenced to death in by a DPR court.

In early June, the judicial panel of the Supreme Court’s Appeals Chamber of the self-proclaimed republic considered a criminal case against the men and found them guilty of mercenary activities, violent coup, committing a crime by a group of people in conspiracy and training with the aim to conduct terrorist activity. All the men challenged the sentence in the DPR Supreme Court.
