MOSCOW, March 13 (RAPSI) – Treason charges were abruptly dropped against Svetlana Davydova, a mother of seven from western Russia, attorney Ivan Pavlov wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.

“The criminal case against Svetlana Davydova has been dismissed for the absence of elements of crime in her actions. Treason charges brought against her have been dropped, and she was informed about her right to exoneration,” according to Pavlov.

Davydova was accused of treason after she called the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow and claimed that Russian soldiers might be heading to eastern Ukraine. She told the embassy that the military base in her neighborhood in Vyazma had been abandoned, alleging that the soldiers could have been deployed to Ukraine.

Moscow's Lefortovsky District Court ruled on January 21 to detain Davydova for almost two months. She was released on her own recognizance in early February after a petition in her support had been filed with the Presidential Executive Office.
