IRKUTSK, June 29 - RAPSI. The Irkutsk Region Commercial Court refused to uphold the lawsuit by the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources against the Baikalsk Pulp and Paper Mill for damage caused to the environment, the court told RIA Novosti on Friday.
The service sought to recover 35.146 million rubles ($1.06 million) from the mill - the amount at which the damages to the environment was estimated in 2011.
The service has sued the mill a number of times. In May this year, the Irkutsk Region Commercial Court upheld the service's lawsuit to reclaim 39.414 million rubles ($1.68 million) in debts for negatively affecting the environment in 2009-2011.
In 2011, the agency again took the mill to court, claiming that the mill had violated the law On the Protection of Lake Baikal, the government executive order and the Water Code. During the analysis, specialists established that in 2010 the concentration of polluting substances in waste waters being discharged into lake Baikal exceeded the permissible standards.
The court obligated the mill to pay 11.9 million rubles ($359,023) in fines.
