MOSCOW, September 5 - RAPSI. On Wednesday the Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of Nikolai Kavkazsky, a suspect in the Bolotnaya Square riots in downtown Moscow investigation, a court spokesperson told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com).

The court has thus dismissed his motion to transfer to house arrest due to his poor.

Clashes with the police flared up on May 6 during an officially permitted opposition march across Moscow. Dozens of protesters and police officers were injured. The police detained over 400 rally participants.

After May 6, the opposition continued its protests in the form of "people's promenades", where crowds of opposition activists strolled together peacefully through the city in a show of opposition. In June, investigators searched the homes of rally organizers and participants.

The charges against Kavkazsky carry a maximum punishment of eight years in prison.

Investigators maintain that Kavkazsky interfered with police efforts to detain rioters and in so doing used physical force against the officers. The court issued an arrest warrant for him on July 27.
