MOSCOW, October 31 - RAPSI, Diana Gutsul. The Moscow City Court has dismissed retired Main Intelligence Directorate Colonel Vladimir Kvachkov's motion to hold his trial publicly, his attorney Oksana Mikhalkina told RAPSI on Wednesday.

Kvachkov has been charged with aiding and abetting terrorism and attempted mutiny. The attorney had filed the request signed by 2,346 citizens. According to the document, holding the case behind closed doors will inevitably result in abuse of the rule of law and will deprive Kvachkov of an opportunity to exercise his right to defense.

"These documents, which were suddenly classified, were already examined by the Moscow City Couty and were not deemed classified. This proves there is no evidence in the case," she said.

The prosecutor officially announced the indictment on Wednesday, pursuant to which Kvachkov has been accused of aiding and abetting terrorism and attempted mutiny. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Kvachkov was acquitted by the Supreme Court on December 22, 2010 on charges of organizing the attempted assassination of former United Energy System head Anatoly Chubais. The next day, the Lefortvosky District Court sanctioned the retired colonel's arrest in the new case. It was initiated on the day that Kvachkov was detained and deemed classified.

Kvachkov has denied the charges. His defense believes the charges are unfounded.

Kvachkov said he has been accused of preparing a group of recruits from his People's Liberation Front of Russia armed with crossbows to carry out a coup.
