MOSCOW, August 22 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Tagansky District Court has placed four young people who allegedly placed Ukrainian flag on the spire of the city's skyscraper under house arrest, RAPSI reported Friday from the courtroom.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian flag was placed on the spire of the skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment in central Moscow. The Soviet star on the spire was painted in the national colors of Ukraine.
A group of young people with special climbing equipment was detained in the aftermath of the incident.
Moscow police initially opened a criminal case under Article 214.2 (vandalism) of the Russian Criminal Code. On Thursday, vandalism charges against young people were replaced with hooliganism charges. They now face seven years in prison instead of three years if convicted.
All suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
